Head’s Welcome
We are proud of our reputation for leading outstanding practice. We consistently work to develop what we do and how we work to improve outcomes for children and families, and to meet the changing needs of the children and families we work with.
As you explore the website you will find details of the work we do and the fun children attending Battledown have, as well as more detailed information about all our services, documentation and practice.
However this website can only tell you a small part of our work and it cannot really show you what it is like being at Battledown. So if you would like to know more please come and visit us.
The telephone number of the school office is 01242 525472. Please feel free to ring at any time and we will be very happy to arrange for you to visit and to ask any questions you may have.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

What We Do
Battledown is a Special School and part of the SAND Academy Trust providing specialist assessment of children between the ages of 2 to 11 and covering the whole range of additional needs.
These include:
- Communication and Social Interaction Difficulties
- Learning Difficulties
- Speech and Language Delay/Disorder
- Developmental Delay
- Physical, Medical difficulties and Sensory Impairment
- Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties
Battledown is a ‘learning community’ where all are involved in a continuous improvement and enrichment. We believe in the concept of lifelong learning and the notion that learning should be rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone. Through our teaching we hope to equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices about the important things in their lives. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences help children to lead happy and rewarding lives. At Battledown we aim to remove obstacles and enable learning for all our pupils.
Throughout your child’s learning journey, opportunities for informal discussion about their progress will be available, with prior arrangement with the class teacher. The class teacher and the Family Worker will visit you and your child at home within the first 6 weeks to give you information on how they have settled in. There will be regular meetings in line with your child’s EHCP.
